Cairo is proving itself as a leading destination on the global tourism map, appealing to families, adventure seekers, and luxury travelers alike. Its unique blend of ancient wonders and modern attractions offers visitors an advanced experience, making it a must-visit location. Last week, the Grand Egyptian Museum opened its doors for trial activities by offering a special preview of twelve meticulously selected exhibition halls. This step came ahead of the highly anticipated opening of the museum, which will be the largest dedicated to a single civilization, further highlighting Egypt’s cultural and historical significance.

Mohamed Atta Elsherbeiny, the General Manager of International Tourism at the Egyptian Tourism Authority, stated: “We are pleased to participate in this week’s Turkish tourism fair, which allows us to strengthen our relations, share our experiences, and develop markets that cater to an increasing number of international travelers. Egypt and Turkey share a common history that dates back to the Ottoman Empire and a rich culture that international visitors can explore. In 2023, we hosted over 15 million international visitors, marking a 28% increase from the previous year. In line with the growing dynamism of our tourism sector, we expect a 4% increase in global arrivals in 2024.”

Egypt enters a new era of sustainability

Egypt is actively promoting emerging destinations such as Luxor by offering new resorts and advanced, faster, and environmentally friendly transportation options, enhancing travelers’ experiences at archaeological sites.

Marking the beginning of a new era for Egypt’s tourism industry, the country is doubling its sustainable tourism initiatives. Egypt has launched numerous green projects aimed at reducing its environmental impact and supporting eco-friendly tourism. Key initiatives include investments in energy-efficient buildings and sustainable transportation options. Additionally, conservation programs are implemented to protect Egypt’s natural and historical sites, ensuring that tourism positively contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage and the environment. Many hotels and tour operators are also adopting green practices such as waste reduction and resource conservation to further minimize their environmental impact.

Health tourism to Siwa Oasis

As Cairo continues to attract visitors with its vibrant city life, Egypt’s commitment to wellness tourism offers travelers the chance to connect with nature and rejuvenate. Situated in the remote Western Desert, Siwa Oasis exemplifies this trend. Known for its serene landscapes and natural healing properties, Siwa is becoming a sought-after destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

A new agenda on the Mediterranean shores

Alongside its vibrant cities and tranquil oases, Egypt is also highlighting El Alamein, a fascinating city on the Mediterranean coast known for its historical significance and modern luxury amenities. Once a major battlefield during World War II, El Alamein is transforming into an attractive holiday resort thanks to recent investments, including 4.464 billion Euros allocated by the Egyptian government. The city, with its beautiful beaches, luxury hotels, and increasingly popular cultural attractions, is becoming an excellent getaway for travelers looking to relax and establish a meaningful connection with history. As Egypt continues to diversify its tourism offerings, El Alamein emerges as a delightful blend of the past and present, inviting visitors to explore its historical sites by day and enjoy its luxurious amenities by night.
