Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport continues to expand its global network with new flight destinations. Starting from March 15, 2024, Pegasus Airlines began flying from Sabiha Gökçen to Sphinx Airport in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.
Located among the top 10 busiest airports in Europe, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport finished 2023 with an all-time passenger traffic record and is expanding its global network with new routes. Pegasus Airlines launched the Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) – Cairo Sphinx (SPX) route with a flight at 23:00 on March 15, 2024. The flights will operate five times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Sphinx Airport, located near Giza in western Cairo, is a popular arrival point for those wanting to visit the Ancient Egyptian Royal Cemetery and ancient monuments, including the Pyramids.
This new route makes Sabiha Gökçen’s fifth destination in Egypt, after Cairo (CAI), Alexandria, Hurghada, and Sharm El Sheikh. The Sphinx connection offers great comfort, convenience, and competitive pricing options for both business and leisure travelers.
With the recent addition of a second runway to increase its capacity, Sabiha Gökçen currently serves a total of 164 destinations across 54 countries, with 40 domestic and 124 international connections. The airport continues to break passenger records by increasing its numbers in the early months of 2024.

“Connecting the world’s two ancient cities for the second time”
Serhat Soğukpınar, CEO of ISG, stated, “With its diversity in transportation and proximity to key centers, Sabiha Gökçen Airport, known as ‘The Airport of the City,’ is one of the important points connecting Istanbul to the world, with its rich history, culture, natural beauty, and opportunities for trade and education. With the flights initiated by Pegasus, we believe that our fifth destination in Egypt, the Sphinx connection, will provide great convenience and comfort to many passengers on both ends. We will continue our efforts to increase the number of destinations and strengthen our partnerships with new collaborations. We wish it great success for our country.”
