The ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean,’ Sri Lanka, was introduced to Turkey under the auspices of TÜRSAB

The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) continues its efforts to foster communication between different cultures, strengthen friendships between societies, and invigorate tourism activities between Turkey and other countries. Hosted by TÜRSAB in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy and Jazeera Airways, the “Sri Lanka Destination Promotion Event” was held on February 21, 2024, at the TÜRSAB Headquarters.

The event, introducing Sri Lanka, known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean,’ was attended by TÜRSAB Vice Chairman Davut Günaydın, members of TÜRSAB’s Board of Directors, the Disciplinary Committee, and representatives from BTK and Specialized Committees, as well as Sri Lankan Ambassador to Ankara Saranya Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Inbound Tour Operators Association Nalin Jayasundera, Sri Lanka’s Honorary Consul in Istanbul Aydın Özü, Jazeera Airways Turkey Sales Manager Arda İçil, travel agency representatives, and members of the press.

“SRI LANKA IS AN EXCEPTIONAL OPTION WITH ITS UNIQUE CULTURAL HERITAGE AND NATURE”

In his opening speech, TÜRSAB Vice Chairman Davut Günaydın emphasized the positive relations between Turkey and Sri Lanka. Highlighting that political relations between the two countries have strengthened commercial and friendly ties, Günaydın stated:
“Maintaining friendly relations positively impacts tourism activities. I believe that events like this will increase curiosity and the spirit of discovery among the citizens of both countries, boosting mutual travel.”

Describing Sri Lanka as a truly special destination, Günaydın added:
“With its turquoise beaches, heavenly nature, exquisite cuisine, and unique cultural heritage that has withstood the test of time, Sri Lanka offers a remarkable tourism experience. With eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Sri Lanka continues to be the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. I hope Sri Lanka will receive its well-deserved share of tourism opportunities as it fully opens its doors to the sector.”

“SRI LANKA APPEALS TO TOURISTS SEEKING UNIQUE EXPERIENCES”

Sri Lankan Ambassador Saranya Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake delivered a presentation to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism potential. She shared detailed information about the country’s geography, climate, and natural and cultural wealth with the attendees.

Highlighting the diversity of Sri Lanka’s nature as an important experience for tourists, she remarked:
“In Sri Lanka, you see different types of trees and nature’s transformation within a short distance. This is truly unique. I believe this will resonate with Turkish people seeking unique experiences. As a tourist, you want to gain diverse experiences. In Sri Lanka, you can experience everything even within a small area. When promoting our country, we use the motto ‘You’ll come back for more.'”

Following the speeches, Nalin Jayasundera, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Inbound Tour Operators Association, presented a video showcasing Sri Lanka’s natural wonders, cultural diversity, and status as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean.’ Arda İçil, Jazeera Airways Turkey Sales Manager, provided information about the airline’s activities.

At the conclusion of the event, travel agency representatives participated in a Q&A session with the Sri Lankan delegation, gaining further insights into the country’s tourism potential.
