Radisson Hotel Group Announces Plans to Strengthen Its Presence in Africa

Radisson Hotel Group has announced its continued expansion in Africa, solidifying its position as one of the leading hotel companies on the continent. With two new hotel agreements in Tanzania, the Group has marked its entry into the country, establishing Tanzania as a key market in its proactive growth strategy. These additions enhance the Group’s diverse portfolio across 30 African countries, further cementing its status as the largest hotel operator in Africa.

Tanzania: A Strategic Entry with Two Hotels

  • Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Dar es Salaam:
This 138-key property, featuring 94 guest rooms and 44 three-bedroom apartments, will be located in Dar es Salaam’s Central Business District as part of a mixed-use development. Opening in 2025, the hotel will occupy the top 14 floors of a 33-story tower, one of the tallest buildings in the region, and will be within walking distance of the Zanzibar ferry terminal. Amenities will include a lobby café, business-class lounge, all-day dining and specialty restaurants, an outdoor pool, and retail spaces.
  • Radisson Hotel Mwanza:
Supporting a strong market entry, this 196-key property in Mwanza, Tanzania’s second-largest city, is under construction and set to open in 2025. It will be the first branded hotel in Mwanza, catering to corporate meetings and events while serving as a gateway to Serengeti National Park. Features include an executive lounge, dining options like Balaustine and Filini, a grand ballroom, a conference center, and wellness facilities.

Nigeria: Strengthening a Leading Position

Radisson Hotel Group maintains its leadership in Nigeria with 13 hotels in operation or development, including five new agreements signed in 2023. The new Radisson RED Hotel Abuja will open in 2028, becoming the Group’s second Radisson RED in the country. Located in Wuse, Abuja’s primary commercial and social district, the 105-key hotel will feature modern amenities such as a rooftop bar, fitness center, and 238 square meters of meeting space.

Morocco: Doubling Down on Growth

Radisson’s Moroccan portfolio has grown from one hotel in 2020 to over nine operational properties and four in development. The new Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Casablanca Finance City, and Radisson RED Casablanca Finance City add a combined 381 keys, scheduled to open by late 2027. Located in Casablanca’s financial hub, Casa Anfa, these properties will include rooftop dining, wellness facilities, and extensive conference spaces, supporting the Group’s target of 25 properties in Morocco by 2030.

Other Key Markets

  • Tunisia: The 305-room Radisson Blu Hotel & Conference Center, Tunis will open after converting an existing property, making it the Group’s seventh property in Tunisia. The hotel will feature extensive conference facilities, including a 1,400-square-meter ballroom.
  • Ethiopia: The 120-key Park Inn by Radisson Addis Ababa, opening in 2025, will introduce the Park Inn brand to Ethiopia. It will offer comprehensive facilities, including wellness centers, dining venues, and meeting spaces.

Diversifying Across Africa

Radisson Hotel Group has added 14 new properties since 2022, including its first safari hotel in South Africa, the Radisson Safari Hotel Hoedspruit, and its first resort in Livingstone, Zambia. This growth reflects a 15% annual net operating growth rate in Africa.

Elie Younes, Global Chief Development Officer, stated, “Following a strong first half of the year, we aim to maintain this momentum in key markets such as Morocco and South Africa. We recently announced our target of reaching 25 hotels in each of these countries by 2030 and have doubled our portfolio in both. We are grateful to our partners for their trust and support in our brands.”
