HOLIDAY TRAVEL TRENDS SHIFT: CRUISE TOURS GAIN POPULARITY FOR EID BREAK

As the Eid al-Fitr holiday approaches, momentum in the tourism sector is accelerating, with a notable surge in demand for cruise and tour programs. Particularly for short holiday periods, cruise travel—offering the opportunity to explore multiple destinations in a single trip—has emerged as one of the leading alternatives for travelers this season.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL TRENDS SHIFT: CRUISE TOURS GAIN POPULARITY FOR EID BREAK

In recent years, the rise of experience-driven travel has reshaped holiday preferences. Instead of traditional hotel stays, more travelers are opting for discovery-focused itineraries and diverse routes. During the Eid period, the most in-demand destinations include the Greek Islands, which continue to attract Turkish tourists thanks to visa-on-arrival schemes. In addition, mini European tours, river cruises along the Danube River and Rhine River, Mediterranean cruise programs, Istanbul-departure cruise ships, and long-haul Caribbean cruise itineraries are among the most პოპულärer travel options.

Rising Interest in River Cruises

Cruise tourism is expanding not only across seas but also along Europe’s major rivers. Between March 19–23, travelers seeking a different holiday atmosphere will have the opportunity to join a special program organized by Sea Genesis Group. The itinerary features a journey aboard the A-ROSA Flora along the Danube, covering some of Central Europe’s most historic cities.

The route begins in Passau and includes stops in Vienna, renowned for its cultural and artistic heritage, Melk with its rich history, and Linz, known for its modern urban character.

Beyond sightseeing, the Danube cruise offers a unique holiday experience with onboard comfort, curated gastronomy, and scenic views of Central Europe’s architectural and natural landscapes—positioning it as an attractive alternative to conventional holiday destinations.

Eid Holiday Boosts Tourism Activity

According to Ahmet Yazıcı, Chairman of Sea Genesis Group, the limited duration of holiday breaks is a key driver behind the growing preference for multi-destination travel programs.

“Since holidays are relatively short, many guests prefer itineraries that cover several cities and countries rather than staying in a single destination. This is why cruise tours, mini European programs, and visa-on-arrival Greek island trips see strong demand during the holiday period. River cruises on the Danube and Rhine have also become increasingly popular among Turkish travelers in recent years,” he said.

Yazıcı emphasized that cruise tourism is rapidly evolving into a major segment not only at sea but also on rivers. He added that experience-oriented travel options continue to gain traction, particularly during holiday periods like Eid.

Cruise Tourism on the Rise

Offering the ability to explore multiple destinations within a limited timeframe, cruise tours are becoming increasingly popular across both European and long-haul routes. Highlighting the broader impact of holiday periods on the tourism sector, Yazıcı noted that Eid holidays consistently generate significant activity.

“Holiday periods create strong momentum in tourism every year. In recent years, the number of travelers seeking alternatives beyond conventional holidays has grown steadily. River cruises, in particular, are attracting great interest. For those who want to discover Europe’s historic cities through a comfortable cruise experience, Danube tours offer a highly appealing option,” he added.
