Ranchero, a beloved Mexican restaurant in the city, has been successfully representing Mexico’s thousands-of-years-old culinary heritage in Turkey since 2010, when it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. With branches in Istanbul and Ankara, Ranchero not only offers original recipes but also brings Mexican culture to Turkey through its décor, ambiance, and special events. Recently, during an official visit to Istanbul, Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, presented a thank you award to Selma (Patricia) González Tanyeri, the owner of Ranchero, for successfully promoting Mexican gastronomic culture in Turkey since 2005.
The Same Experience as in Mexico
Ranchero, known for its authentic Mexican flavors, surprises even Mexicans who have come from across the ocean. The common feedback from Mexicans who have the chance to experience their native cuisine at Ranchero is: “It’s just like it is back home. In fact, it’s even better.” Representing Mexico’s ancient gastronomic culture successfully, Ranchero was awarded this recognition by the Mexican Minister.
A Restaurant Born from Love, Bringing Mexico to Turkey
The name “Ranchero,” meaning “Mexican native” in Turkish, is operated by the Tanyeri Gonzalez family. The restaurant’s origin dates back to the 1970s. It all began when Rıza Tanyeri, from Zonguldak, and Patricia Gonzalez, from Mexico, met while studying English in the UK, fell in love at first sight, and married in Mexico. In 2005, their love story led to the birth of Ranchero Restaurant. Now, Ranchero, known as the Mexican of the city, serves in Istanbul (Suadiye, Nişantaşı, Fişekhane, Ataşehir) and Ankara (Maidan, Atakule, One Tower, Armada).
